Dear everybody!
We have now been living in our new house for three months; so far it has been great. Great with more room and great to have a small garden where we have enjoyed the spring and early summer. Below you can see what we have been up to recently....
Ingrid started going to dance lessons in central Copenhagen before we moved and she continued doing so until
the class ended. Here the girls are performing their graduation show for friends and family. Ingrid is the
jazzy turquise one in the back.
Merete asked if I could spend a day at her school to tell her students about astronomy and spaceflight. I didn't
even have to take a day off to do this since my work strongly encourages us to do such things whenever possible. Here I am
telling a very engaged audience about satellites and the moon.
I took Ingrid and Peter along just for the fun of it. Peter turned out to be very eager to help teach the students
(he knows alot about astronomy) while Ingrid seemed to be pretty embarassed by it all. In the picture below Peter is
almost leaping from the floor while Ingrid has retreated under the table..!
A few weeks later it was time for Peter to say hello to his coming school. He'll attend the same school as Ingrid,
'Munkegaards skolen', which lies just five minutes on bike from our house. It is going to be wondeful to have him in
school and see him get many new friends in our local community. Since we moved he has been attending his old preschool
in central Copenhagen and because of this he hasn't yet made new friends out here. I am sure this will change quickly
after summer, when he starts.
Here a 'food club' arrangement is in full swing, this time accompagnied by our good old friends, Ellen+Henrik+Rune+Ida, who
were visiting Denmark. They are currently living in Greenland and we miss them, so it was nice to have them with us!
Since we moved I wanted to get a barbeque for use in our garden. One day at the junkyard I got lucky and found the
little red contraption shown below. Peter is interested in blacksmith work so I set him up with a little set including
an anvil, bucket of water, hammer, etc. You should hear it when he swings that hammer over a piece of hot copper..! Before
he got the copper chunk to work on he used coins, but only the smallest ones; typical Peter!
We are still exploring the swamp-land adjacent to our house. Here the kids have found a place with really slippery
green goo.
Ingrid strolling among the geese:
Here Signe-mom is making icecreams for two eager customers. Ingrid is checking that Peter's isn't bigger than hers.
Ingrid has really taken up piano playing. She already knows how to play several tunes, some of them tought by
her grandmother and some picked up on Barbie.com!
We were all extremely happy when a big box from Colorado arrived at our doorstep. It was from our beloved friends
Irene, Karen and Sarah. They lived just next door to us in Boulder and Karen was one of Ingrids classmates. Among the many
goodies in the box were these very pretty string-nail ornaments and a frisbee from one of our favorite shops in Boulder,
'Into the wind'. All items now stand on a prominent shelf in Ingrids room.
That's all for now. In July we are off for summer vacation in the countryside and I will be going on a 17-day trek to Australia for a conference and astro-imaging. Stay tuned, we miss you!!!
